Defining Bioscience for the Memphis Economy and Opportunity
The biosciences have transformed cities around the world. In each of these communities, the definition of bioscience differs depending on where the community is going and where it has been. Memphis has a strong foundation in several areas of the biosciences: orthopedics, medical devices, pediatric cancer, infectious disease, logistics and agriculture. Each of these areas presents unique opportunities.
The Foundation has worked hard to analyze the community’s bioscience strengths. Specifically, Memphis and the Memphis Bioworks Foundation are focusing in three critical areas of bioscience – biomedical, biologistics and bioagriculture.
As communities around the world attempt to create bioscience research parks and other bioscience initiatives to boost their economies, we know that the key to success will be building and expanding within these bioscience niches where our foundation is strong.
